If you have solar panels, there is a good chance they haven’t been cleaned in a while. While the solar panel cleaning business is growing, it is still relatively new. Many homeowners don’t even know professional solar cleaners exist, because of that, oftentimes they’ll try to clean their own solar panels.
Cleaning your own solar panels can be relatively easy depending on how steep the roof is and how many solar panels you have. It is also important to consider the layout of your solar. If you have multiple rows of solar then you’ll need certain types of solar.
Assuming you have a single story roof and easy access to the solar panels, you’ll want to go to a hardware store such as Ace Hardware or Home Depot. Purchase an extended pole, a flat, soft padded brush, solar cleaning solution. If you own a home, there is a good chance you already own a house and a sprayer.
Safely get onto the roof with your equipment and a hose that has a sprayer attached. Start by lubricating a singular panel with the hose. Start by spraying down the panels to remove the base layer of dirt and dust.
Apply the solar cleaning solution to the pad. Then, in circular motions, you’ll want to brush the solar cleaning solution on. Allow it to sit for a few minutes then rinse the panel again with your hose.
If you don’t think your DIY result is up to your standard, it would be good to consider hiring a professional solar panel cleaner. At our company, we don’t use the DIY method to clean the solar panels. Instead, we use DI tanks and extended water-fed poles with soft bristle brushes to scrub and rinse all the panels.
Another reason you may want to consider hiring a professional solar panel cleaner is if the roof is too steep. With our equipment, we are able to clean all the solar panels from the ground level. While it isn’t ideal to clean the solar from the ground, it can still be done with a quality finish.
